Retford Reflexology, Massage & BeautyAbout Swedish Body Massage:
Massage is the art of healing through touch. It restores balance to the mind, body and spirit. Swedish body massage (also known as holistic Massage) dates from the early 19th century. It is an original massage technique that uses oils and a sequence of movements working superficially and deeper into the tissue layers. It is one of the easiest ways of attaining and maintaining good health and is something we do naturally. (It is a natural healing instinct to rub an aching shoulder or stubbed toe.) By using oils and gentle manipulation, the sense of touch eases our troubled minds, relieves aches and pains and provides a feeling of true relaxation. Psychologically the client enjoys some one to one attention, which may lead to an increase in confidence and self esteem. Always remember the therapeutic power of touch.
Carrier oils provide the necessary lubrication to allow the hands to move freely over the skin and not 'drag' whilst massaging, at the same time 'carrying' the essential oils into the body. They must be light and non-sticky for the penetration to take place effectively, and preferably have very little odour.
The oils contain vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids, and many of them soften and improve the condition of the skin. Some of them are also highly effective in treating irritated, sensitive conditions such as eczema and psoriasis as well as helping to reduce wrinkles and scar tissue.

The following conditions respond well to massage, but this is by no means an exhaustive list:
◦ Aching muscles
◦ Stiff joints(especially when associated with Osteoarthritis/rheumatism)
◦ Stiff neck
◦ Menstrual/menopausal problems

◦ Insomnia etc.
About Indian Head Massage
This massage is carried out with the client sitting in a chair and involves specific massage techniques to the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, head and face. All these areas are most vulnerable to stress and tension. The treatment can be performed with or without the use of oils and also with a minimum amount of clothing removed, if required.
The massage begins with work on the neck to relax and release tension, moving on to the upper back and shoulder area to ease knotted muscles and stiffness. Next is a scalp massage, working through the hair, and this is followed by working pressure points on the face. It improves circulation in the head, and induces a feeling of calm and tranquility which assists in releasing anxieties and promoting clear thinking. It brings a feeling of well-being which can assist with easing stress-related symptoms.
Indian Head Massage is India's favourite form of massage and is based on ancient Ayurvedic techniques which have been practiced for over a thousand years. Ghandi himself had a daily massage, believing it boosted his energy levels whilst also keeping him in touch with his spiritual mind.
