Reflexology & Hot Stone Reflexology #01

Retford Reflexology, Massage & Beauty

Reflexology is an holistic therapy which works on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of your body. Stimulating these reflexes can help many health problems and ailments in a safe and natural way.

Following illness or injury, Reflexology can restore and maintain the body's natural healing processes. Reflexology also aids the circulation of blood and lymph fluid, encouraging full absorption of nutrients. Reflexology encourages the effective production of antibodies to fight infection, therefore improving the body's overall immune system.

Reflexology is a non-invasive preventative health care, which is becoming more and more important as we become more aware of the potential damage to our health caused by the changing environment.

Hot Stones Reflexology
Hot stone reflexology combines the benefits of an individual reflexology treatment with a number of different sized smaller warmed basalt stones to enable deep stimulation of the reflex points for a relaxing and deeply rejuvenating full body treatment.

The heat from the stones quickly opens the energy pathways to make this treatment extremely relaxing and by working on the reflexes of the feet, your body will feel restored, balanced and revitalised.

It is estimated that one stroke with a stone is worth five strokes with the hand, thus Hot Stones reflexology is calculated to be five times deeper and last five times longer than a conventional treatment with the hands alone!

The heat from the stones improves the relaxation response and increases healing through improved blood flow and circulation. The stones can also be used cold to help ease inflammation, cool muscles and heal.

It is quite a different experience to a "conventional" reflexology treatment!

What Conditions Can it Help?

What to expect with a Reflexology session?
I will always begin the first session by undertaking a full health, diet and lifestyle consultation before any treatment.

This is followed by an examination of the feet and some general relaxation techniques. The treatment will continue a more precise thumb and finger technique aimed at applying pressure to every reflex area on the top and bottom of each foot.

I will always work both feet as part of a full treatment. This is because the left foot corresponds to the left side of the body, and vice versa for the right foot and right side of the body.

If a particular part of the body is out of balance then the corresponding reflex may feel tender or sore during the treatment. It is important that you let me know of any unusual sensations to avoid discomfort, and I will review the treatment plan if needed.

The frequency of treatment is up to you and may vary depending on your state of health and long term objectives.

How long does it take?
The initial consultation involving a general overview of health, diet and lifestyle information usually takes approx 15 minutes.

Each subsequent treatment session then lasts around 50 minutes.

It's recommended that your practitioner is professionally qualified and a member of an accredited association.
